Experimental demonstration of a hard-type oscillator using a resonant tunneling diode and its comparison with a soft-type oscillator CiNiiでみる

A hard-type oscillator is defined as an oscillator having stable fixed points within a stable limit cycle. For resonant tunneling diode (RTD) oscillators, using hard-type configuration has a significant advantage that it can suppress spurious oscillations in a bias line. We have fabricated hard-type oscillators using an InGaAs-based RTD, and demonstrated a proper operation. Furthermore, the oscillating properties have been compared with a soft-type oscillator having a same parameters. It has been demonstrated that the same level of the phase noise can be obtained with a much smaller power consumption of approximately 1/20.

Effects of oscillator phase noise on frequency delta sigma modulators with a high oversampling ratio for sensor applications CiNiiでみる

Frequency delta sigma modulation (FDSM) is a unique analog to digital conversion technique featuring large dynamic range with wide frequency band width. It can be used for high performance digitaloutput sensors, if the oscillator in the FDSM is replaced by a variable frequency oscillator whose frequency depends on a certain external physical quantity. One of the most important parameters governing the performance of these sensors is a phase noise of the oscillator. The phase noise is an essential error source in the FDSM, and it is quite important for this type of sensors because they use a high frequency oscillator and an extremely large oversampling ratio. In this paper, we will discuss the quantitative effects of the phase noise on the FDSM output on the basis of a simple model. Integration of Experts' and Beginners' Machine Operation Experiences to Obtain a Detailed Task Model CiNiiでみる

We propose a novel framework for integrating beginners' machine operational experiences with those of experts' to obtain a detailed task model. Beginners can provide valuable information for operation guidance and task design; for example, from the operations that are easy or difficult for them, the mistakes they make, and the strategy they tend to choose. However, beginners' experiences often vary widely and are difficult to integrate directly. Thus, we consider an operational experience as a sequence of hand-machine interactions at hotspots. Then, a few experts' experiences and a sufficient number of beginners' experiences are unified using two aggregation steps that align and integrate sequences of interactions. We applied our method to more than 40 experiences of a sewing task. The results demonstrate good potential for modeling and obtaining important properties of the task.

Virtual Temporal Friendship Creation: Autonomous Decentralized Friendship Management for Improving Robustness in D2D-based Social Networking Service CiNiiでみる

In this paper, for improving the robustness of D2D-based SNS by avoiding the cascading failure, we propose an autonomous decentralized friendship management called virtual temporal friendship creation. In our proposed virtual temporal friendship creation, some virtual temporal friendships are created among users based on an optimization problem to improve the robustness although these friendships cannot be used to perform the message exchange in SNS. We investigate the impact of creating a new friendship on the node resilience for the optimization problem. Then we consider an autonomous decentralized algorithm based on the obtained results for the optimization problem of virtual temporal friendship creation. We evaluate the performance of the virtual temporal friendship creation with simulation and investigate the effectiveness of this method by comparing with the performance of a method with meta-heuristic algorithm. From numerical examples, we show that the virtual temporal friendship creation can improve the robustness quickly in an autonomous and decentralized way.

Sea Clutter Image Segmentation Method of High Frequency Surface Wave Radar Based on the Improved Deeplab Network CiNiiでみる

High Frequency Surface Wave Radar(HFSWR) can achieve over-the-horizon detection, which can effectively detect and track the ships and ultra-low altitude aircrafts, as well as the acquisition of sea state information such as icebergs and ocean currents and so on. However, HFSWR is seriously affected by the clutters, especially sea clutter and ionospheric clutter. In this paper, we propose a deep learning image semantic segmentation method based on optimized Deeplabv3+ network to achieve the automatic detection of sea clutter and ionospheric clutter using the measured R-D spectrum images of HFSWR during the typhoon as experimental data, which avoids the disadvantage of traditional detection methods that require a large amount of a priori knowledge and provides a basis for subsequent the clutter suppression or the clutter characteristics research.

RF Signal Frequency Identification in a Direct RF Undersampling Multi-band Real-time Spectrum Monitor for Wireless IoT Usage CiNiiでみる

To reduce the complexity of direct radio frequency (RF) undersampling real-time spectrum monitoring in wireless Internet of Things (IoT) bands (920 MHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5 GHz bands), a design method of sampling frequencies is proposed in this paper. The Direct RF Undersampling receiver architecture enables the use of ADC with sampling clock lower frequency than receiving RF signal, but it needs RF signal identification signal processing from folded spectrums with multiple sampling clock frequencies. The proposed design method allows fewer sampling frequencies to be used than the conventional design method for continuous frequency range (D.C. to 5GHz-band). The proposed method reduced 2 sampling frequencies in wireless IoT bands case compared with the continuous range. The design result using the proposed method is verified by measurement.

Current status and issues of traffic light recognition technology in Autonomous Driving System CiNiiでみる

Autonomous driving technology is currently attracting a lot of attention as a technology that will play a role in the next generation of mobility. For autonomous driving in urban areas, it is necessary to recognize various information. Especially, the recognition of traffic lights is important in crossing intersections. In this paper, traffic light recognition technology developed by the authors was evaluated using onboard sensor data during autonomous driving in the Tokyo waterfront area as an example of traffic light recognition technology. Based on the results, it was found that traffic lights could be recognized with an accuracy of approximately 99% to carry out the decision making for intersection approaching. However, from the evaluation results, it was also confirmed that traffic light recognition became difficult under situations involving occlusion by other object, background assimilation, nighttime conditions, and backlight by sunlight. It was also confirmed that these effects are mostly temporary, and do not significantly affect decision-making to enter intersections as a result of utilizing information from multiple traffic lights installed at an intersection. On the other hand, it is expected that recognition with current onboard cameras will become technically difficult during situations in which not all traffic lights are visually recognizable due to the effects of back or front light by sunlight when stopped at the stop line of an intersection. This paper summarizes these results and presents the necessity of appropriate traffic light installation on the assumption of recognition by onboard cameras.

Artificial Bandwidth Extension for Lower Bandwidth using Sinusoidal Synthesis based on First Formant Location CiNiiでみる

The narrow bandwidth limitation of 300-3400 Hz on the public switching telephone network results in speech quality deterioration. In this paper, we propose an artificial bandwidth extension approach that reconstructs the missing lower bandwidth of 50-300 Hz using sinusoidal synthesis based on the first formant location. Sinusoidal synthesis generates sinusoidal waves with a harmonic structure. The proposed method detects the fundamental frequency using an autocorrelation method based on YIN algorithm, where a threshold processing avoids the false fundamental frequency detection on unvoiced sounds. The amplitude of the sinusoidal waves is calculated in the time domain from the weighted energy of 300-600 Hz. In this case, since the first formant location corresponds to the first peak of the spectral envelope, we reconstruct the harmonic structure to avoid attenuating and overemphasizing by increasing the weight when the first formant location is lower, and vice versa. Consequently, the subjective and objective evaluations show that the proposed method reduces the speech quality difference between the original speech signal and the bandwidth extended speech signal.

Near-field Beamforming in Time Modulated Arrays CiNiiでみる

Near-field beamforming has played an important role in many scenarios such as radar imaging and acoustic detection. In this paper, the near-field beamforming is implemented in the time modulated array with the harmonic. The beam pattern with a low sidelobe level in precise position is achieved by controlling the switching sequence in time modulated cross array. Numerical results verify the correctness of the proposed method.

Codebook Design for Vertical Beamforming by Multi-Cell Coordination CiNiiでみる

Fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication systems employ beamforming technology using massive multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) to improve the reception quality and spectrum efficiency within a cell. Meanwhile, coordinated beamforming among multiple base stations is an effective approach to improving the spectrum efficiency at the cell edges, in which massive MIMO is deployed at geographically distant base stations and beamforming control is conducted in a cooperative manner. Codebook-based beamforming is a method for realizing multi-cell coordinated beamforming, in which each base station selects one of multiple beams that are predefined in a codebook. In codebook-based beamforming, it is important to design an efficient codebook that takes into account the beam allocation and the number of beams. In general, the larger the number of beams defined in a codebook, the more finely tuned the beam control can be and a greater improvement in spectrum efficiency can be expected. However, it requires a huge signal processing to optimize the beam combinations with a large number of beams by coordinated beamforming. This paper proposes a novel codebook design that efficiently assigns beam directions and widths in a vertical plane. Computer simulations showed that the proposed codebook performs as well as the conventional method while requiring fewer beam combinations.

The Ratio of the Desired Parameters of Deep Neural Networks CiNiiでみる

There have been some researchers that investigate the accuracy of the approximation to a function that shows a generating pattern of data by a deep neural network. However, they have confirmed only whether at least one function close to the function showing a generating pattern exists in function classes of deep neural networks whose parameter values are changing. Therefore, we propose a new criterion to evaluate the approximation accuracy. Our new criterion shows the existence ratio of functions close to the function showing a generating pattern in the function classes. Moreover, we show a deep neural network with a larger number of layers approximates the function showing a generating pattern more accurately than one with a smaller number of layers under the proposed criterion, with numerical simulations.

Upper Bounds on the Error Probability for the Ensemble of Linear Block Codes with Mismatched Decoding CiNiiでみる

In channel decoding, a decoder with suboptimal metrics may be used because of the uncertainty of the channel statistics or the limitations of the decoder. In this case, the decoding metric is different from the actual channel metric, and thus it is called mismatched decoding. In this paper, applying the technique of the DS2 bound, we derive an upper bound on the error probability of mismatched decoding over a regular channel for the ensemble of linear block codes, which was defined by Hof, Sason and Shamai. Assuming the ensemble of random linear block codes defined by Gallager, we show that the obtained bound is not looser than the conventional bound. We also give a numerical example for the ensemble of LDPC codes also introduced by Gallager, which shows that our proposed bound is tighter than the conventional bound. Furthermore, we obtain a single letter error exponent for linear block codes.

Sublinear Computation Paradigm: Constant-Time Algorithms and Sublinear Progressive Algorithms CiNiiでみる

The challenges posed by big data in the 21st Century are complex: Under the previous common sense, we considered that polynomial-time algorithms are practical; however, when we handle big data, even a linear-time algorithm may be too slow. Thus, sublinear- and constant-time algorithms are required. The academic research project, "Foundations of Innovative Algorithms for Big Data," which was started in 2014 and will finish in September 2021, aimed at developing various techniques and frameworks to design algorithms for big data. In this project, we introduce a "Sublinear Computation Paradigm." Toward this purpose, we first provide a survey of constant-time algorithms, which are the most investigated framework of this area, and then present our recent results on sublinear progressive algorithms. A sublinear progressive algorithm first outputs a temporary approximate solution in constant time, and then suggests better solutions gradually in sublinear-time, finally finds the exact solution. We present Sublinear Progressive Algorithm Theory (SPA Theory, for short), which enables to make a sublinear progressive algorithm for any property if it has a constant-time algorithm and an exact algorithm (an exponential-time one is allowed) without losing any computation time in the big-O sense.

Reliable Decentralized Supervisory Control of Discrete Event Systems with Single-Level Inference CiNiiでみる

We consider a reliable decentralized supervisory control problem for discrete event systems in the inference-based framework. This problem requires us to synthesize local supervisors such that the controlled system achieves the specification and is nonblocking, even if local control decisions of some local supervisors are not available for making the global control decision. In the case of single-level inference, we introduce a notion of reliable 1-inference-observability and show that reliable 1-inference-observability together with controllability and Lm(G)-closedness is a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a solution to the reliable decentralized supervisory control problem.

An efficient ARQ scheme under IEEE 802.11ac error channel CiNiiでみる

In this paper, an automatic retransmission request (ARQ) scheme for IEEE 802.11ac is presented, which can solve the problem of severe packet loss and greatly improve the performance in error-prone environments. The proposed solution only requires to be deployed on the sender and is compatible with the 802.11 protocol. The algorithm utilizes the basic strategy of sliding retransmission and then adds the method of copying frames. The media access control (MAC) protocol data unit (MPDU) lost in the transmission and the newly added data frame brought by the sliding window change are replicated. The scheme retransmits the duplicated aggregated packet and further improves the throughput by increasing the probability of successful transmission of sub-frames. Besides, we also establish a mathematical model to analyze the performance of the proposed scheme. We introduce the concept of average aggregated sub-frames and express the sliding retransmission strategy as the aggregated transmission of average aggregated sub-frames, thereby simplifying the model and effectively analyzing the theoretical throughput of the proposed algorithm. The simulation results of Network simulator 3 (NS-3) simulation results demonstrate that the performance of the proposed algorithm is better than the traditional sliding retransmission ARQ algorithm in error-prone channels with a higher physical layer rate.

An algorithm For Single Snapshot 2D-DOA Estimation based on a three-parallel linear array model CiNiiでみる

Estimating the spatial parameters of the signals by using the effective data of a single snapshot is essential in the field of reconnaissance and confrontation. Major drawback of existing algorithms is that its constructed covariance matrix has a great degree of rank loss. The performance of existing algorithms gets degraded with low signal-to-noise ratio. In this paper, a three-parallel linear array based algorithm is proposed to achieve two-dimensional direction of arrival estimates in a single snapshot scenario. The key points of the proposed algorithm are: 1) construct three pseudo matrices with full rank and no rank loss by using the single snapshot data from the received signal model; 2) by using the rotation relation between pseudo matrices, the matched 2D-DOA is obtained with an efficient parameter matching method. Main objective of this work is on improving the angle estimation accuracy and reducing the loss of degree of freedom in single snapshot 2D-DOA estimation.

At Eurocrypt 2011, Lindell presented practical static and adaptively UC-secure commitment schemes based on the DDH assumption. Later, Blazy et al. (at ACNS 2013) improved the efficiency of the Lindell's commitment schemes. In this paper, we present static and adaptively UC-secure commitment schemes based on the same assumption and further improve the communication and computational complexity, as well as the size of the common reference string.

In this letter, we discuss the ambiguity function of interleaved sequences. Furthermore, using the Guassian sum and choosing binary m-sequences as column sequences, we investigate the property of a binary sequence set given by Zhou, Tang, Gong (IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory, 54(9), 2008), which has low ambiguity property in a large region. Those sequences could be used in radar systems.

Analysis and Design of Continuous-Time Comparator CiNiiでみる

Applications of continuous-time (CT) comparator include relaxation oscillators, pulse width modulators, and so on. CT comparator receives a differential input and outputs a strobe ideally when the differential input crosses zero. Unlike the DT comparators with positive feedback circuit, amplifiers consuming static power must be employed in CT comparators to amplify the input signal. Therefore, minimization of comparator delay under the constraint of power consumption often becomes an issue. This paper analyzes transient behavior of a CT comparator. Using "constant delay approximation", the comparator delay is derived as a function of input slew rate, number of stages of the preamplifier, and device parameters in each block. This paper also discusses optimum design of the CT comparator. The condition for minimum comparator delay is derived with keeping power consumption constant. The results include that the optimum DC gain of the preamplifier is ee3 per stage depending on the element which dominates load capacitance of the preamplifier.
